Where do I get Motorcycle Insurance?
Not all insurance companies insure motorcycles. And, not all motorcycle insurance coverage is created equal. Some insurance companies offer specialized insurance coverage. Other companies may require that all drivers must be listed in order to be covered under the policy. Before you take the leap and buy a bike, make sure that your insurance agent can help you secure the best coverage!
Some auto insurance companies offer coverage for motorcycles, but some do not. Check with your insurance agent to see if they have a company that insures motorcycles. Progressive, Foremost and Dairyland Insurance are common insurance companies that can help. These companies offer specialized coverages that you might not find with a company that just writes auto insurance.
Before you buy, check to see what your insurance plan offers. Some motorcycle insurance companies provide specialized coverages such as:
• Replacement cost insurance for your bike. (So, if you total out your 2016 motorcycle, they will pay you to buy a 2022 model.)
• Extra protection for accessories such as saddle bags and carried contents.
• Towing coverage.
• Accident forgiveness for the first claim. This means your rate will not automatically increase at your first renewal after the accident.
It is also important to remember that not all motorcycle insurance companies will cover all drivers. Some companies require that you specifically list each person who will operate the motorcycle. If that is the case, people who operate the motorcycle and are not listed as drivers may not be covered if you have a claim.
Check with your insurance agent to make sure that you have a motorcycle insurance policy that covers your specific needs!
